New York [USA], June 23 : After getting a mistrial in the case in which a woman accused him of sexually assaulting her, Bill Cosby is now planning to host town halls to educate young people on sexual assault laws to protect themselves against false charges.
According to CNN, Cosby "wants to get to back to work and is now planning town halls and we are going to be coming to this city sometime in July", his publicists said.
Andrew Wyatt and Ebonee Benson, while in an interview on 'Good Morning Alabama' also shared that 'Cosby Show' star wants to talk to younger people now about this issue.
"Because this is bigger than Bill Cosby. This issue can affect any young person, especially young athletes of today, and they need to know what they're facing when they're hanging out and partying, when they're doing certain things that they shouldn't be doing.
And it also affects married men," said Wyatt. The announcement comes less than a week after Cosby's high-profile trial on charges of aggravated indecent assault ended in a mistrial.
The jury was unable to come to a unanimous decision. Wyatt said the idea for the town halls came last week after calls poured in from churches and civic organizations asking Cosby to speak about what people can learn from sexual abuse allegations.
Though Wyatt confirmed that is no official schedule for the town halls yet, but Cosby's team is planning on at least a five city tour.
Benson said Cosby wants to hold these town halls because it's important for people to be educated on what can be considered sexual assault.
Benson noted, "Laws are changing, laws are changing. The statute of limitations for victims of sexual assault are being extended. That's why people need to be educated -- you know, a brush across the shoulder, at this point, can be considered sexual assault and it's a good thing to be educated about the law." More 50 women who have accused him of sexual misconduct but their allegations never resulted in criminal charges, namely because the statute of limitations has expired.
