Bengaluru (Karnataka) [India], Jan. 19 : Dubbing the Congress Party's remarks that the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has become the "rubber stamp" of the government as "ridiculous", the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has said that grand old party which, had made the Prime Minister's office a rubber stamp is now talking the same about the RBI governor.
"The party, which had made the Prime Minister Office a rubber stamp, is now talking about RBI governor.
This is ridiculous," BJP leader S. Prakash told ANI. Responding to Congress party's statement that the RBI governor is not seen either on TV or print and they would not be able to recognise him as he is no where seen, Prakash said that the RBI governor works in framing policies and monitors the monetary system of India, and is not supposed to be in media or press unlike his predecessor.
"May be Congress is thinking about their own nominee who was more in media than in RBI," he said. The Congress Party on Wednesday demanded RBI Governor Urjit Patel's resignation and asked the government to normalise currency withdrawal limits.
"The RBI, for the first time since independence, has lost its autonomy and has become a rubber stamp of the government.
We want the government to restore the autonomy of the RBI and if it is not done, then the RBI governor must resign," Congress leader Ghulam Nabi Azad said.
