Bulandshahr gang-rape: Sheila Dikshit takes on UP CM, offers legal aid to victims

Ghaziabad (Uttar Pradesh), Aug 4 : Congress chief ministerial candidate Sheila Dikshit on Thursday assured legal aid to the Bulandshahr gang-rape victims while advising Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav to wake up and address the concerns of the people.

Dikshit, who met the victims earlier in the day, alleged that the incumbent Samajwadi Party Government in Uttar Pradesh has no control over the law and order situation in the state.

"We are ready to offer legal help to them. We are ready to get the girl admitted to the school of their choice. We would also like to say to Akhilesh Yadav to wake up. The security of people is the first priority of any state government and Akhilesh Yadav has totally failed in it," Dikshit told the media here.

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav earlier in the day hit back at his political opponents for trying to gain political mileage from the Bulandshahr gang-rape case which he dubbed as 'unfortunate' and 'shameful'.

"There are other political parties, which are trying to gain political mileage out of it. Those who are sitting in rooms.what are they trying to make the victims understand? What are they trying to suggest? On behalf of my party, I can say it was a shameful incident.

I don't want to comment about the incidents of other states," Yadav said. The three men arrested in connection with the Bulandshahr rape case have been sent to 14-day judicial custody.

Four other accused are, however, still absconding. A 35-year-old woman and her 14-year-old daughter were allegedly gang-raped in Bulandshahr district earlier on July 29.

The victims were on their way from Noida to Shahjahanpur with the other family members when their vehicle was stopped near a cycle repairing shop in Dostpur village on NH-9, which connects Noida and Bulandshahr.
