Congress to come up with “Vasooli Diwas” campaign against AAP

New Delhi [India], Oct 14 : Demanding recovery of money of Delhi tax payers from the ruling Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) in the city for publishing advertisements on self-promotion, the Congress Party on Friday said that the grand old party will come up with a campaign called "Vasooli Diwas" to reimburse exchequer's fund.

Delhi Congress spokesperson Sharmistha Mukherjee told ANI that this money should be paid back to the tax payers of Delhi as it is absolutely unethical and it also breaches the Supreme Court guideline that the government's money should not be spent on either personal glorification of the political leaders.

"By the order of the HC A committee was formed to look into the expenditure of ads by the AAP government.

And it was found that a huge amount of Delhi tax payers money was spend in ad campaign in Punjab and Goa and it clearly indicated that money was Delhi tax payers money was spend to gain political benefits before the elections in Goa and Punjab.

...we (Delhi Congress) are going to do a campaign call "Vasooli Diwas" where we will collect signatures and demand them to pay back the money to the people," she added.

A Central government-appointed committee, headed by former chief election commissioner B.B. Tandon, in its order on September 16 came down heavily on the AAP government, saying it had splurged public funds on advertisements projecting chief minister Arvind Kejriwal and his party in violation of the Supreme Court guidelines and asked the ruling party to reimburse.

The three-member committee had been constituted by the I (and) B ministry on directions of the Supreme Court to address issues related to Content Regulation in Government Advertising.

In its order, the panel said that AAP should be made to reimburse the expenditure since the violation of the Supreme Court order of 13 May 2015, has taken place.
