Don Cheadle defends women-only screenings of ‘Wonder Woman’

New Delhi [India], May 31 : So a 'Marvel' character has come to the rescue of a 'DC' movie. Don Cheadle, who plays 'War Machine' in the Marvel cinematic Universe, defended the women-only screenings of the upcoming 'Wonder Woman' movie, by giving a befitting reply to all the men who labeled the screenings as sexist.

The actor took to Twitter and wrote, "An all women screening of 'Wonder Woman' pits men against women? How?" thereby asking a Twitter user who spoke sarcastically about how we need more division in America.

He continued to tweet about the backlash, writing about institutional sexism and why a men-only screening is not a rational response.

The actor also praised one Twitter user's idea not only to support the women-only screenings but also to charge only 85 percent of the full ticket price for women, "to reflect gender wage disparity".

The 'House of Lies' star made an incredibly poignant point about one user's accusations that this is some kind of double standard.

He wrote, "A double standard presupposes equal footing. This ain't that." It should be noted that, men-only screening requests have popped up amidst the outrage that movie theater chain Drafthouse invited women to a women-only screening of 'Wonder Woman' in Austin, Texas.

The screenings sold out quickly and the theater expanded it to other cities across the U.S., including New York.
