‘Fantastic Beasts’ tops foreign box office with hefty (Dollar) 60.4m

Washington D.C. [USA], Dec. 5 : JK Rowling's 'Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them' starring Eddie Redmayne topped the foreign box office this weekend, grossing a whopping 60.4 million dollars.

The 'Harry Potter' spinoff is on approximately 23,000 screens in 67 markets making a worldwide total stand at a sizable 607.9 million dollars, reports variety.com.

The movie did particularly well in China, grossing 15.5 million dollars, and pushing its total in the Middle Kingdom to 72.5 million dollars after two weeks.

It also got a boost from Japan, where it made 6 million dollars. Warner Bros., the studio behind the fantasy adventure plans to make four sequels. In second place, Japan's 'Your Name' aka 'Kimi No Wa' picked up 40.9 million dollars thanks largely to a monster opening in China.

The fantasy anime topped charts in the country while making 243.1 million dollars worldwide. Disney's 'Moana' snagged third place, adding 32 million dollars to its 177.4 million dollars global haul.

The animated film has already debuted in China, making 21.3 million dollars in two weeks. 'Underworld: Blood Wars' and 'Allied' rounded out the top five, making 16.3 million dollars and 12.1 million dollars respectively.
