FBI releases Hillary Clinton’s email investigation report

Washington [US], Sept. 3: Democratic Presidential nominee Hillary Clinton repeatedly told the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) in the July interview that she couldn't recall key details and events related to classified information procedures, along with a report on its investigation into her private email server, the notes released by the bureau have indicated.

The notes of the interview with Clinton released yesterday said that she had told investigators that she either does not "recall" or "remember" at least 39 times, often in response to questions about process, potential training or the content of specific emails.

"Could not recall any briefing or training by State related to the retention of federal records or handling classified information," CNN quoted Clinton's statement as saying.

The report mostly reiterated what FBI Director James Comey testified in open hearings before the Congress which included that more than six dozen emails which contained classified information at the time they were sent and that there appeared to have been hacking attempts on her server.

However, there has been no evidence that the hacking were successful. The reports added fuel to the criticisms of Clinton and the narrative that her team acted extremely careless.

As the reports were released, GOP nominee Donald Trump and other attacked Clinton connecting the emails to questions over whether the former secretary of state gave preferential treatment to donors to her family's foundation.

Friday's documents come as Clinton's lead over Trump has been cut in half since her post-convention bounce last month, the CNN's Poll of Polls showed.

The bureau in a statement made the information public in response to numerous Freedom of Information Act requests.

"Today the FBI is releasing a summary of former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton's July 2, 2016 interview with the FBI concerning allegations that classified information was improperly stored or transmitted on a personal e-mail server she used during her tenure," the statement said.

The statement added that the agency is also releasing a factual summary of the FBI's investigation into this matter.

The report provided detail on mass deletions of Clinton's email server by the company maintaining her server, Platte River Networks.

The findings also revealed that former Secretary of State Colin Powell "warned" that her emails could become government record in 2009.
