Five killed, 25 injured after bus falls into ditch; Rs. 4 lakh relief announced

Nalanda (Bihar) [India], Dec. 10 : Five passengers were killed and more than 25 injured after the bus they were travelling in overturned after it fell into a water-filled ditch at Jhadu Bigha mode under Bind Police Station in Bihar's Nalanda district on Saturday.

The injured were shifted to nearby hospitals and private nursing homes. Upon receiving information, Nalanda District Magistrate Dr. Thiyagarajan SM, and Superintendent of Police Kumar Ashish reached the spot and took charge of the rescue and relief operations, and deployed a crane to pull out the bus.

"Five people have died and around 20-25 passengers are injured. The treatment of injured passengers is going in the hospital," said the District Magistrate. The accident took place when the driver of the bus, which was on its way to Utarthu Village in Bind, lost control over the vehicle that was ascending a bridge.

As a result the vehicle overturned and fell into the ditch. Police have sent the bodies for post-mortem at the Civil Hospital in Bihar Sharif. Meanwhile, Chief Minister Nitish Kumar announced a relief of Rs. 4 lakh for next of kin to the victims..
