New Delhi [India], Mar. 17 : Mocking Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) supremo Mayawati for making the Electronic Voting Machine (EVM) tampering row a big issue, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Sudesh Verma said entire matter was a product of sheer frustration with the BJP coming into power.
"Those who are raising issues regarding the EVM row are doing it out of frustration because the BJP has come to power.
This issue was never raised when the Congress came to power in 2004, also when Aam Aadmi Party (AAM) won in Delhi, but now they all have a problem.
Firstly, they should learn and respect the mandate of people, which they are forgetting," Verma told ANI.
Verma further stated that an immediate action should be taken on all these parties and ministers who are putting allegations on the BJP "The Election Commission of India (EC) has clarified that EVM cannot be tampered, despite knowing the fact if they have any other evidence then they should approach them and not waste our time.
But it should not look like the phenomena of sour grapes in the end," said Verma. Yesterday, the Election Commission said that given effective technical and administrative safeguards, EVMs aren't tamperable and integrity of electoral process is preserved.
Earlier on March 11, Mayawati put the onus on the EVMs for her loss in the Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections, saying the machine accepted votes only in favour of the BJP.
Supporting the same, Delhi Chief Minister and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) national convener Arvind Kejriwal alleged that the EVMs were tampered during the recently conducted assembly polls in the five states which ultimately resulted in his party's dismal show especially in Punjab.
Kejriwal suggested that the Election Commission needs to relook at the use of EVMs in the electoral process until faith is restored in it.
