Government initiates enquiry against J-K Handicrafts Corporation MD

Jammu and Kashmir [India], Mar. 30 : Taking a small step towards eradicating corruption in the state machinery, the Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti led coalition government of Jammu and Kashmir on Thursday initiated an enquiry against Ishtiaq Hussain Drabu, Managing Director of Jammu and Kashmir Handicrafts Corporation, under the civil services rules, 1956.

A memorandum has been served to Ishtiaq Hussain Drabu, alleging that he approved a promotion case of the employees of Handicrafts Corporation without having the right to do so.

According to the memorandum signed by Raja Jee Bhat, Deputy Secretary to state's Industries and Commerce Department a few weeks ago, Drabu had been directed to submit a written statement in his defence, within 21 days.

The Mufti government too this initiative after the allegations that the recommendation of the Departmental Promotion Committee (DPC) was not done in consonance with the rule-25 of Jammu and Kashmir clarification and appeal rules, 1956.

According to the charges framed by Shailendra Kumar, Commissioner / Secretary to the state government, the Departmental Promotion Committee (DPC) meeting was held on February 28, 2015 for considering the promotional cases of the employees of Jammu and Kashmir Handicrafts (S (and) E) Corporation Ltd.

The committee submitted their recommendation before the Industries and Commerce managing director for consideration, which was approved by Drabu without examining the recommendation as per service recruitment.
