Griezmann gives Atletico Madrid narrow first-leg victory over Leicester City

Madrid [Spain], Apr. 13 : Antoine Griezmann's classy first-half spot kick of a controversial penalty helped Atletico Madrid defeat Leicester City 1-0 in the hard-fought first leg encounter of their Champions League quarter-final played at the Vicente Calderon Stadium, Madrid on Wednesday night.

Leicester City can, however, count themselves unlucky as replays showed the foul committed by Marc Albrighton on Griezmann for the penalty in the 28th minute of the game took place outside the area.

Atletico Madrid, chasing their third final appearance in four seasons, were on top for much of the encounter but Leicester remain well in contention to reach the semi-finals after restricting the Spanish team to just one goal, reports goal.com.

Diego Simeone's side were unable to turn their dominance into a more convincing win and Leicester, who overturned a first-leg deficit to knock out Sevilla in the last-16, will still have designs on another LaLiga scalp.

Griezmann has now been involved in 10 goals in his last 9 Champions League home games (eight goals, two assists).

The tie is intriguingly poised and all set for a big night in the second leg in Leicester next Tuesday.
