Hasan, Rahim help B’desh reach 542/7 in Wellington Test

Wellington [New Zealand], Jan. 13 : A brilliant double-century from Bangladesh all-rounder Shakib-Al-Hasan and 159 runs from wicketkeeper-batsman Mushfiqur Rahim pushed New Zealand on the back foot on second day of the first Test here at the Basin Reserve on Friday.

Hasan and Rahim, during the course of their innings, also recorded the highest partnership for Bangladesh in Test cricket- 359 - their second highest total away from home.

At Stumps on Day 2, Bangladesh were 542 for 7 with Sabbir Rahman unbeaten at the crease on 10. Hasan, who scored a blistering knock of 217 at a strike-rate of 78, was the highest individual score by a Bangladeshi in Test cricket while Rahim only just missed out on batting through the entire day.

The Black Caps also weren't up to their mark as they spilled a number of opportunities and were also not good with the ball at times.

The Basin Reserve pitch isn't doing much and has really eased out and would be good for batting at least till tomorrow.

For the Kane Williamson-led side, Neil Wagner was the pick of the bowlers as he scalped three wickets while Tim Southee and Trent Boult took two wickets each.
