Hyderabad: “Designated Driver” initiative to curb drunken driving accidents

Hyderabad, July 30 : In a bid to curb the rising number of road accidents due to drunken driving, Hyderabad Police are planning to introduce a concept of "designated driver", in which the designated person would abstain from drinking and drop the rest back home.

The cops are also mulling to make it compulsory for pubs and bars to tag the "designated driver" and not serve alcoholic drink to him.

As per reports, the police officials in Hyderabad and Cyberabad East Commissionarate are working out the modalities for implementing the concept.

The police's initiative comes in the wake of a gruesome accident earlier this month which claimed lives of three persons of a family.

Ten-year-old Ramya, her uncle and grandfather were killed, while two other members of the family were injured when their car was hit by another car, being driven by a student under the influence of alcohol.
