IPS officer approved to become Tea Board Deputy Chairman

Kolkata, June 13 : The Union Cabinet's Appointments Committee has approved the proposal for appointment of IPS officer Arun Kumar Ray as Deputy Chairman of Tea Board for a tenure of two years, an official said here on Wednesday.

"The Appointment Committe has approved the Department of Commerce's proposal for appointment of Arun Kumar Ray as Deputy Chairman of Tea Board India for a tenure of two years (further extendable upto a maximum tenure of five years) from the date of assumption of charge of the post or until further orders, whichever is earlier," an official told IANS.

Ray, a 1988 batch officer of Odisha cadre, will likely to replace Shyamal Misra who has been serving as the Deputy Chairman of the board on an additional charge.

Misra, an IAS officer, is also serving as Joint Secretary in the Commerce Department.

In May, Mishra was asked to continue with the additional charge of the post of Board Deputy Chairman for a period six months beyond May 10.

According to industry sources, this is "probably the first time", when an IPS officer was named for the Deputy Chairman's post.
