Kashmir unrest: Mehbooba Mufti assures suitable compensation for rehabilitation of victims

Srinagar [India], Jan. 16 : Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti today condemned the recent unrest in Kashmir Valley and assured that the civilian killings would be probed into properly and suitable compensation would be given for the rehabilitation of the affected people.

Winding up debate on Governor's address in Legislative Council this afternoon, the Chief Minister said that the constitution of India and the constitution of Jammu and Kashmir have the capacity to address the aspirations of the people of the state.

Speaking on the revocation of Armed Forces Special Power Act other security related laws, the Chief Minister said that government is looking forward to such measures yet the restoration of peace and normalcy is the main requirement to do so.

The Chief Minister further said that Indo-Pak relations have a direct bearing on peace and development of Jammu and Kashmir and both the countries are bound to cooperate mutually for peace in the region.

She also stressed for the opening of more traditional routes between the two countries to enhance and facilitate people to people contact across the Line of Control and International Border.
