Kudankulam plant a “matter of great satisfaction”: Jitendra Singh

New Delhi [India], Oct 18 : Minister of State in Prime Minister's Office (PMO) Jitendra Singh on Tuesday said it is a matter of great satisfaction and pride that the framework agreement of Kudankulam project in Tamil Nadu was initiated between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Russian President Vladimir Putin.

"It is a matter of great satisfaction and we are proud of the fact that on the 15th of this month at the initiative of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, a framework agreement was signed between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and President of Russia with regard to the Kudankulam project in Tamil Nadu.

The atomic energy project, which is carried out with the collaboration between India and Russia," Singh told ANI here.

Singh said once these units get commissioned, it will be like turning a new leaf as far as power scenario in India is concerned.

"The first unit is already in function and for the second unit the present government under Prime Minister Modi has been following up the project very regularly and as a result of which the political testing of the second unit was already done.

The second unit would be functionally by December this year. And the agreement signed between PM Modi and Russian President is regard to the forth unit. And when this third and fourth unit gets commission, this will be turning a new leaf as far as the power scenario in India is concerned," he added.

The second unit of Kudankulam Nuclear Power Plant (NPP) in Tamil Nadu was formally launched on Saturday, an event witnessed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Russian President Vladimir Putin through video-conferencing here.

The two leaders, who participated in the BRICS Summit, also witnessed the laying of the foundation concrete of the plant's Units 3 and 4, which will be built jointly by the two countries in Tirunelveli district of Tamil Nadu.
