Mushfiqur out of remaining ODI series with hamstring injury

Dhaka [Bangladesh], Dec.28 : Bangladesh wicketkeeper-batsman Mushfiqur Rahim has been ruled out of the remainder of the three-match ODI series against New Zealand due to a hamstring injury.

The 28-year-old sustained the injury while diving to complete a single during the opening ODI against the Kane Williamson-led side at Christchurch on Monday.

He was forced to retire hurt on 42 as Bangladesh lost the match by 77 runs to go 0-1 down in the series.

Mushfiqur is likely to be sidelined for two weeks and might miss the upcoming three-match T20 series as well as the start of the two Tests that follow.

While confirming the news, Bangladesh coach Chandika Hathurusingha said he is hopeful about Mushfiqur recovering earlier than expected, which would allow him to play the Test series beginning on January 12 in Wellington.

"At this stage Mushfiq is out for two weeks. But he is recovering well. I saw him in the pool today. You know Mushfiq, he is very driven and thorough in his preparation. I am sure he will do the same thing with his injury. He will be ready sooner than we think," ESPNcricinfo quoted Hathurusingha as saying. Wicketkeeper Nurul Hasan , who made his debut in January this year and has played six T20s for Bangladesh so far, will replace injured Mushfiqur in the ODI squad.

"If Mushfiqur was here, we would have had more options in selection. [Hasan] is coming in, and he is capable as anyone with the bat. He hasn't played much international cricket but we are confident he can do a job," he added. As a result, Hasan will become only the 12th wicketkeeper to make his ODI debut for Bangladesh, and the fifth player to replace Mushfiqur since his debut in 2006.

The others were Dhiman Ghosh, Jahurul Islam, Anamul Haque and Liton Das..
