Najma Heptulla sworn-in as Manipur Governor

Imphal, Aug 21 : Dr. Najma Heptulla on Sunday was sworn in as the 18th Governor of Manipur at the Darbar Hall of the Raj Bhavan here.

She was administered the oath of office by acting Chief Justice of the High Court of Manipur R.R Prasad.

Chief Minister Okram Ibobi Singh, ministers and legislators were present at the ceremony. The Manipur Governor designate, Heptulla, arrived at the Imphal Airport on Saturday afternoon, where she was received by State Chief Secretary Oinam Nabakishore, along with Director General of Police L.M.

Khaute, Imphal West Deputy Commissioner Ningthoujam Jeoffrey, Superintendent of Police Dr. A.K. Jhaljit and State Protocol Officer Rehanuddin Choudhury. Dr. Heptulla, 76, had last month resigned as Minority Affairs Minister from the Union Cabinet. The resignation had come as Prime Minister Narendra Modi is believed to have set an unwritten writ of '75-year age bar' for ministers.

Meghalaya Governor V Shanmuganathan had been currently holding the additional charge as Manipur's Governor.
