Nepal: Prez, PM greet nation on occasion of Vijaya Dashami

Kathmandu [Nepal], Oct.11 Vijaya Dashami is being celebrated in Nepal on Tuesday with traditional fervor and gaiety.

It is one of the biggest cultural and religious festivals of Nepal. There is a tradition in the country of receiving Tika and Jamara' from elders as the auspicious items bestowed by the goddesses Nawa Durga, Mahakali, Mahalaxmi and Mahasaraswati on this day, reports the Himalayan Times On the occasion, Nepal President Bidya Devi Bhandari greeted the people of Nepal by wishing them happiness, peace and prosperity.

In her message, the President said " Our festivals symbolise unity in diversity, have made a significant contribution to uniting the geographical, religious, racial, cultural and linguistic diversity and maintaining social amity, national unity and the common Nepali identity.

The President in her message said, "The unique customs and traditions of the people of different castes and ethnicities, communities, geographies and religious beliefs remain as the unparalleled treasures and cultural pillars of tolerance,".

Nepal Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal has also extended his heartiest best wishes to all the countrymen.

In his message, the PM wished for the peace, happiness, good health and prosperity of all the Nepalis.

Stresseing that unity in diversity is the unique dimension of Nepal, Dahal said that it is our responsibility to protect and preserve all the communities, languages, cultures and civilisations.
