Nick Kyrgios battles past David Goffin to win Japan Open

London [England], Oct. 9 : Controversial Australian tennis star Nick Kyrgios on Sunday rained down 23 aces as he defeated Belgium's David Goffin to win the Japan Open in Tokyo.

The sixth seeded Australian staged a thrilling comeback and defeated Goffin 4-6, 6-3, 7-5 in a summit showdown that lasted for around two hours to clinch his third title of the season.

Kyrgios tried exceedingly hard to start turning the momentum after dropping the first set to fifth-seeded Belgian, reported the Guardian.

Kyrgios has added the Japanese event to the first two trophies of his career, which he had earlier won this year in Marseille and Atlanta.

The win has helped the Australian in the points chase to the season-ending finals next month in London, with Kyrgios moving to provisional 12th for the eight-man World Tour Finals.

He now stands 38-14 for the season and becomes just the fifth men's player this year to win three titles or more.
