New Delhi, Jan 13 : Niyogi Books launched three new imprints in celebration of its 13 years in publishing at a function here on Friday evening.
The three new imprints are "Thornbird" for translation; "Olive Turtle" for fiction and "Paper Missile" for non-fiction.
The evening also witnessed the book launch of "P.C. Sorcar: The Maharaja of Magic" at the function held at India International Center.
The proceedings of the evening kicked off with the narration of the publication's journey by Rajiv Chandran and Geeta Chandran.
Niyogi Books started its publication with the first coffee table book by Geeta Chandran and Rajiv Chandran called 'So Many Journeys'.
Bikash De Niyogi, Managing Director and Publisher, Niyogi Books speaking on the journey of last 13 years said: "I am a workaholic.
For me the more, the merrier. Now that the Indian publishing scenario is vibrating with multifarious activities, I would like to be a part of this larger scenario.
The diversification is a conscious decision to uphold the vision of Niyogi Books 'Fine Publishing Within Reach'.
Hence, this attempt to go beyond just illustrated books and publish new imprints of fiction, translation and non-fictional prose."
Well known poet and short story writer Keki N.
Daruwalla launched Olive Turtle and shared how the Indian English writing has changed over the years. Thornbird dedicated to greatest translated works was launched by Kannada poet and author H.S. Shivaprakash talked about the translation work scenario then and now. Paper Missile and was launched by Udaya Narayana Singh, an academician and creative writer.
Speaking on the future endeavours, Nirmal Kanti Bhattacharjee, Director, Niyogi Books said: "Once the take off stage is over and we are ready to negotiate more diversity and large plenitude, it becomes necessary to pigeon hole oneself in different formats.
This is what motivates Niyogi Books to launch the three new imprints."
The special highlight of the evening was the launch of "PC Sorcar: The Maharaja of Magic" in the magical presence of PC Sorcar Jr who has written the book.
Author, critic and academic Harish Trivedi launched the book.
The evening was well attended by dignitaries from literary circles, academicians, art and culture and Delhi socialites celebrating the magic of written word.
