New Delhi, Aug. 5 : Asserting that the Maulana Azad National Institute of Technology was running away from its responsibility of preventing crime against women, Women Rights Activist Annie Raja on Friday lashed out at the Bhopal institute for its order imposing dress code on girl students.
National Federation of Indian Women general secretary said that there is no correlation between the dressing of women and atrocities against them.
"The institute and its management is the running away from the responsibility of preventing crime against women.
They think that if girls wear salwar kameez and dupatta then every crime against women can be prevented.
We have seen all over the country that there is no correlation between the dress and the sexual atrocities against women," she told ANI.
"It is escapism on part of the management. It is intervention in personal freedom. The students there are all above 18 years and they have freedom to choose their dress," she added. Female students of Maulana Azad National Institute of Technology (MANIT) in Bhopal on Friday raised slogans and staged a protest over dress code and hostel timings.
The protesting students alleged that the institute authorities have stipulated 9.30 p.m. as the deadline for them to enter the hostel, while there is no such restriction on boys. In the same notice, the administration of the institute had also asked girls not to wear shorts and skirts on the campus.
However, the decision was later dropped after protests by the students..
