London, July 28 : Expressing his willingness to pass the baton to Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton, U.S.
President Barack Obama has said that he is more optimistic about the future of America than ever before.
Calling Clinton "a leader with real plans to break down barriers, blast through glass ceilings, and widen the circle of opportunity to every single American", Obama endorsed her as the next president of the United States.
He pointed out that Clinton has already served many years in the administration, which gives her significant credentials of dealing with the challenges and making the right decisions.
"You know, nothing truly prepares you for the demands of the Oval Office. Until you've sat at that desk, you don't know what it's like to manage a global crisis or send young people to war.
But Hillary's been in the room; she's been part of those decisions. She knows what's at stake in the decisions our government makes for the working family, the senior citizen, the small business owner, the soldier, and the veteran," the Guardian quoted Obama as saying.
Drawing comparison between Hillary and Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump, Obama said: "Donald not really a plans guy.
Not really a facts guy, either. He calls himself a business guy, which is true, but I have to say, I know plenty of businessmen and women who've achieved success without leaving a trail of lawsuits, and unpaid workers, and people feeling like they got cheated." "Does anyone really believe that a guy who's spent his 70 years on this Earth showing no regard for working people is suddenly going to be your champion? Your voice?" he added.
He further said that Clinton is the candidate who can keep the country safe. "She's worked closely with our intelligence teams, our diplomats, our military. And she has the judgment, the experience and the temperament to meet the threat from terrorism. It's not new to her. She is fit to be the next Commander-in-Chief," he said. Obama criticized Trump for calling the US military a disaster. "Apparently, he doesn't know the men and women who make up the strongest fighting force the world has ever known.
He suggests America is weak. He cozies up to Putin, praises Saddam Hussein, and tells the NATO allies that stood by our side after 9/11 that they have to pay up if they want our protection.
Well, America's promises do not come with a price tag," he said. The U.S. President further said that Americans are not frightful people and they don't look to be ruled. Obama said that acknowledging racial tension isn't making it worse, instead "it's creating the possibility for people of good will to join and make things better." The President also acknowledged that Clinton has her critics but went on to say that we all make mistakes.
"Hillary's got her share of critics. She's been caricatured by the right and by some folks on the left; accused of everything you can imagine - and some things you can't.
But she knows that's what happens when you're under a microscope for 40 years. She knows she's made mistakes, just like I have; just like we all do," he said. He urged the Americans to vote for Clinton and reject cynicism and fear, adding he believes that the Democratic Party is in the right hands.
America isn't about "yes he will." It's about "yes we can," he added. "Time and again, you've picked me up. I hope, sometimes, I picked you up, too. Tonight, I ask you to do for Hillary Clinton what you did for me. I ask you to carry her the same way you carried me. This year, in this election, I'm asking you to join me. Thank you for this incredible journey. Let's keep it going. God bless the United States of America," the President concluded..
