Opposition ridicules PM Modi’s “budget” like address

New Delhi [India], Dec. 31 : Prime Minister Narendra Modi's speech which covered from demonetisation to introduction of welfare schemes on New Year's Eve evoked negative response from the opposition parties who criticised him for giving a budget like speech.

Expressing disappointment over the Prime Minister's 43-minute address, Congress spokesperson Randeep Surjewal said many question posed on demonetisation remained unanswered since the decision had paralysed the nation's economy.

Further criticising Prime Minster Modi's silence on ATM withdrawal limits, Surjewala said, "It has become a habit of Prime Minister Modi to make headlines and no deadlines." "We are extremely disappointed with the Prime Minister's speech.

Many questions were left unanswered. His decision paralyzed nation's economy. The country can't run this way," he said. "We once again urge the Prime Minister to withdraw the restrictions imposed on withdrawals post demonetisation," he added.

Expressing similar views, Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) supremo Lalu Prasad Yadav said his speech was similar to a budget speech and added that his address did not make any reference on black money.

"The speech seemed like a budget speech. He did not mention about bringing back black money at all," Prasad said..
