Pak SC finalises members of Panama case probing team

Islamabad [Pakistan], May 6: The Pakistan Supreme Court bench, overseeing the implementation of the Panamagate verdict, has finalised the six members of a Joint Investigation Team (JIT) that is to probe Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and his family's business dealings abroad.

According to the Dawn, the Supreme Court on Friday approved the member for the JIT that will be headed by Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) Additional Director General Wajid Zia.

The investigative team will include - State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) BS-21 officer Amer Aziz, Securities and Exchange Commission of Pakistan (SECP) Executive Director Bilal Rasool, National Accountability Bureau (NAB) Director Irfan Naeem Mangi, Brig.

Muhammad Nauman Saeed from the Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) and Brig. Kamran Khurshid from the Military Intelligence. The JIT members have been given the authority to engage and associate local and/or foreign experts to facilitate the investigation.

The apex court by a verdict of 3-2 ordered the formation of a JIT to probe whether Sharif and his family is guilty of amassing illegal wealth abroad in its verdict on April 20.

The probing committee has to submit a progress report on a fortnightly basis to the bench. The next hearing has been scheduled for May 22, 2017, in line with this directive..
