Perth Test: Starc, Warner put Aussies on top on Day 1

Perth [Australia], Nov.3 : Mitchell Starc displayed a brilliant bowling performance before opener David Warner smashed a half-century to put Australia in a commanding position on Day One of the opening Test against South Africa here at the WACA Ground on Thursday.

At stumps, Australia were at 105-0, with Warner and Shaun Marsh batting at their respective scores of 73 and 29.

Earlier, South Africa skipper Faf du Plessis won the toss and opted to bat first. Fast Bowler Mitchell Starc returned in style with four wickets to help Australia bundle out the visitors for 242.

Josh Hazlewood claimed three wickets while Nathan Lyon and Peter Siddle also shared three wickets between themselves.

Quinton de Kock was the batting mainstay for the Proteas as he smashed a six and 11 fours in his 84-run knock besides sharing a 71-run sixth wicket partnership with Temba Bavuma (51).
