New Delhi [India], Nov. 15 : Continuing to criticise the demonetisation drive, the Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M) on Tuesday said the currency spike by the Prime Minister Narendra Modi government has spread chaos across the country.
CPI-M general secretary Sitaram Yechury told the media it has been critical about the manner in which demonetisation was implemented, as the common man was being harassed by this decision.
"We will raise this issue tomorrow that many people are affected with this. The Government didn't manage alternate arrangements. In last few days many people have died and committed suicide. State Chief Minister of Kerala and Tripura has written to the Prime Minister. We demanded the transaction of state fund," he added. Responding to the indelible Ink marks while exchanging banned Rs. 500 and 1,000 notes to stop "unscrupulous elements trying to convert black money", Yechury asked if this was some kind of Muhammad Tughluq Raj that the Centre was imposing.
"What is the meaning of that? Will the ink vanish in one week? It is a Muhammad Tughluq Raj? We have been told to withdraw 4000 rupees a week," he added.
Prime Minister Modi will today chair an all-party meet over the issue of demonetisation of Rs 500, Rs 1000 currency notes that has united various Opposition parties against the government.
Opposition leaders are also meeting today to discuss demonetisation. While joining hands in opposing the demonetisation of high-value currency notes, the Opposition parties planned to hold another meeting to chalk out their strategy for Parliament's winter session, starting on Wednesday.
