Karachi [Pakistan], Nov.8 : The Pakistan People's Party (PPP) and other opposition parties will take up the Accountability Bill in the Senate on Tuesday.
The Nation quoted PPP Parliamentary Leader in the Senate Taj Haider, as saying that the united opposition would stage a protest outside the Senate after a meeting of the Senate Committee on the Accountability Bill.
He said the PPP wanted the elimination of double standards of justice from the country. He described as ironical the jailing of PPP Co-chairman Asif Ali Zardari for more than 10 years for no crime, and the unwillingness of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif to face an initial inquiry on charges of corruption against him.
He said the top PPP leadership was ready to present itself for accountability under the accountability law being enacted by the opposition parties with consensus.
Haider warned that Pakistan is heading towards anarchy due to the incumbent government's "undemocratic steps".
He said that it is the parliament's prerogative and not the Supreme Court's to decide on the Accountability Bill.
He said it was vital to get the bill passed from the National Assembly and making it into an anti-corruption law.
He said the PPP has always been advocating the supremacy of the parliament..
