Rain in Punjab, Haryana brings down maximum temperatures

Chandigarh, Jan 23 : Widespread rain in Punjab and Haryana on Tuesday led to the maximum temperature dipping at most places.

The rain is considered good for the standing wheat crop in both the agrarian states.

The weather had remained largely dry in the region for the past over a month, which was causing concern to farmers.

Industrial city Ludhiana in Punjab experienced 24mm of rainfall.

The maximum temperature here was recorded at 11.8 degrees Celsius, seven degrees below normal. The minimum temperature here was 6.4 degrees.

Amritsar recorded a high of 13 degrees, while Patiala city recorded a high of 13.4.

Both places were six degrees below normal.

Patiala recorded 18mm of rain, while Amritsar received 7mm.

Chandigarh also received rain on Tuesday and recorded a high of 14.6 degrees, six degrees below normal.

In Haryana, Karnal town recorded a high of 15 degrees Celsius and received 16mm of rain.

The Met Department has predicted rain and fog at some places in the next 24 hours, followed by clear weather in the coming days.
