Recoveries remain more than new Covid cases in Karnataka

Bengaluru, Dec 29 : Maintaining the healthy trend, with 1,178 patients discharged on Monday, recoveries remained more than 653 new Covid cases on Sunday across Karnataka, said the state health bulletin on Monday.

"With 1,178 discharged in the southern state during the day, recoveries rose to 8,92,273 till date, while 653 new cases on Sunday increased the state's Covid tally to 9,16,909, including 12,547 active cases," said the bulletin here.

The virus claimed 8 more lives during the day, taking the state's death toll to 12,070 since the pandemic broke out on March 8.

Bengaluru registered 309 fresh cases, taking its Covid tally to 3,86,908 cases, including 8,225 active cases, while recoveries rose to 3,74,378, with 654 discharged in the last 24 hours.

With 5 succumbing to the infection, the city's death toll rose to 4,304.

Of the 205 patients in the intensive care units (ICUs) across the state, 93 are in Bengaluru hospitals, 11 in Kalaburagi, 10 in Tumakuru, 9 each in Hassan and Kolar, and 8 in Mandya district.

Out of 67,742 tests conducted on Sunday in the state, 3,437 were through rapid-antigen detection and 64,305 through the RT-PCR method.

Of the 179 returnees from the UK tested on Monday, 1 was positive, 120 negative and results of 58 are awaited.

"Out of 1,766 returnees from the UK tested till date, 27 were positive, 1,384 negative and reports of 355 are awaited," added the bulletin.

Positivity rate for the day is 0.96 per cent and case fatality rate 1.22 per cent for the state.
