Reliance Entertainment to release ‘Viceroy’s House’ on 3rd March 2017

New Delhi [India], Dec. 16 : Gurinder Chadha's 'Viceroy's House' will be released globally on March 3, 2017. The film tells the story of the final months of British rule in India and its release will coincide with the 70th Anniversary of the Independence of India and the founding of Pakistan.

The Indian and Pakistani cast is led by Manish Dayal from 'The Hundred Foot Journey', 'Gangs of Wasseypur' star Huma Qureshi and Om Puri.

The principal political leaders are portrayed by Tanveer Ghani (Nehru), Denzil Smith (Jinnah) and Neeraj Kabi (Gandhi).

The British cast is led by Hugh Bonneville as Lord Mountbatten, Gillian Anderson as Lady Mountbatten, Lily Travers as their daughter Pamela, and Sir Michael Gambon and Simon Callow as key civil servants.

Viceroy's House in Delhi was the home to the British rulers, whose rule came to an end after 300 years.

For 6 months in 1947, Lord Mountbatten, great grandson of Queen Victoria, assumed the post of the last Viceroy.

Many of the events depicted in the movie are either unknown or forgotten, but all have "strong contemporary relevance" in terms of lessons to be learnt concerning the politics of division and fear, the origins of religious extremism, and our moral responsibility towards migrants fleeing violence for a better life.
