New Delhi [India], Oct 7 : The Supreme Court on Friday stayed the Patna High Court's order quashing the notification banning consumption and sale of liquor in Bihar.
The apex court admitted Chief Minister Nitish Kumar-led Bihar Government's plea and also issued notice to Confederation of Alcoholic Beverage Companies.
The apex court will now hear the matter post 10 weeks. The Bihar Government had moved the apex court on October 3 challenging the Patna High Court's order. On September 30, the Patna High Court had struck down the Bihar Prohibition of Liquor Act, calling it illegal.
Following the Patna High Court judgement, the Bihar Government had instituted an even more stringent law banning liquor consumption in the state and had approached the Supreme Court.
