Schumi’s son taking steady road to F1

Johannesburg [South Africa], Oct.2 : Mick Schumacher, the son of seven-time Formula 1 world champion Michael, has insisted that he is still taking it steady on his road to Formula One.

While asked about emulating his father Michael with the move into F1, Mick said, "Can't say when it will happen.

At the moment I am simply trying to learn, so I can't say when the time will come." The 17-year-old, who made his debut in German F4 series last year, said that he first expects himself to be fully prepared before switching to F1.

Mick, however, believes a move to Formula 3, rather than F1, would be the logical next step. "F3 would be the logical next step, I believe that I will be at the next tests, "Mick, who also drives for Ferrari-linked Italian junior team Prema, was quoted as saying by Sport24.

Earlier, Mick missed out on winning the German Formula 4 title to main rival and former teammate Joey Mawson.

Mick headed into the final round of the season at Hockenheim with 39-point behind Mawson, who wrapped up the championship with two races to spare by clinching victory in the opening race of the weekend.

Mick, however, still has a chance to claim the Italian F4 title in the final round at Monza at the end of this month.
