New Delhi, Jan 29 : Chief Economic Advisor Arvind Subramanian on Monday expressed confidence that at least one or two states will implement universal basic income (UBI) over the next two years.
"There has been a lot of discussion on universal basic income over the last year.
The discussions are going on even at present. I can bet you that at least one or two states will implement it within the next two years," Subramanian said while addressing a press conference after Finance Minister Arun Jaitley tabled India's Economic Survey for 2017-18 in the Parliament.
In last year's Economic Survey, the CEA had suggested the idea of universal basic income for everyone to cover their basic needs.
