Sri Lanka to establish ‘Happy Villages’ to eliminate poverty

Colombo [Sri Lanka], Dec.28 : The Sri Lankan government will next month launch the ambitious 'Happy Villages' project with the aim of empowering communities to eliminate poverty.

The Ministry of Health, Nutrition, and Indigenous Medicine office will implement the project in parallel to the President Maithripala Sirisena's second anniversary celebration next month.

A series of programs to be implemented in 2017 covering the whole island will be inaugurated in Halkandawila village in Kalutara district on January 8, reports the Colombo Page web site.

A preliminary meeting was held yesterday at the Kalutara District Secretariat under the patronage of the private secretary to the Health Minister, Mrs.
