‘Students should pursue industry aligned, new age courses’, says UPES CEO

New Delhi [India], Oct 5 : A disruptive change in business models is transforming employment landscape in India and globally at a rapid pace.

According to Gartner, by 2018 digital business will drive a 500 percent boost in digital jobs. Mobile, User Experience and Data Sciences are driving businesses today and hence some of the hottest in- demand skills include smart machines the Internet of Things, Robotics, Integration Specialists, Digital Business Architects, nanotechnology and wearable technology.

"Demand for industry ready professionals in various sectors is on a rise. With technological shifts towards big data, cloud technology, mobile internet, 3D printing, and artificial intelligence new job categories and functions are emerging.

Therefore, while choosing a course, students should consider its future relevance and not just what is prevalent today or what their peers are doing," said CEO and President University of Petroleum and Energy Studies (UPES), Utpal Ghosh.

"With mega initiatives like Digital India, Skill India, Smart Cities and Make in India there is a huge scope in Geo Informatics, renewable energy, broadband communication, urban and infrastructure development, machine design, fire and safety, disaster management, IPR and Cyber laws," he added.

UPES is currently the only Indian university with QS ratings, a new international standard identifying excellence and diversity among the world's universities.

UPES is one of the preferred universities by students from Rajasthan, as the state is amongst the top five from where it receives maximum applications.

This year over 60 students from the state were successfully placed with leading organizations like Indian Navy, Infosys, Capgemini, Wipro Energy and Utility, IBM, Reliance Industries, KPIT, LG Electronics and Weatherford.

Most of these 60 students were pursuing Aerospace Engineering, Applied Petroleum Engineering Gas, petrochemicals and Refinery, Mainframe Technology, Telecom Informatics, Cloud Computing and Virtualization Technologies, Geo Informatics Engineering, Geoscience Engineering, MBA Oil and Gas Management, BA LLB Energy Laws and BBA LLB Corporate Laws.
