TMC demands CBI probe of Tripura chit fund issue

Agartala, (Tripura), [India], Jan. 20 : The Tripura unit of the Trinamool Congress (TMC) organized a sex hour sit down agitation in Agartala, coming down heavily against the Manik Sarkar led government and the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) for downplaying the role of the Rose Vally chit fund scam in the state.

The agitators also demanded an assurance from the government for the return of the money of depositors.

TMC leader in the state assembly, Sudip Roy Barman, raised allegations against West Bengal's former Transport Minister, Madan Mitra, for promoting the Sarada chit fund and Tripura Chief Minister Manik Sarkar and Minister Bijita Nath for the Rose Valley and other chit funds.

Barman also alleged that the CBI is turning a blind eye to the chit fund issue in Tripura, and added that probably there is some understanding between Manik Sarkar and Prime Minister Narendra Modi on this.

Barman informed that the TMC has been demanding a probe of 142 non-banking financial institutions in Tripura that have looted money from over 14 lakh investors.

He observed that the CBI has started investigation in Assam, West Bengal, Chhattisgarh, Orissa and Jharkhand, but is unfortunately soft on Tripura.
