Trade talks with Modi will be ‘very positive’: Trump

Osaka, June 28 : US President Donald Trump said on Friday before his talk with Prime Minister Narendra Modi that it will be "very positive".

Talking to reporters before the trilateral talks between him, Modi and Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe, Trump congratulated Modi on his re-election.

In the presence of media as their talk was about to begin, he praised Modi and Abe for their "tremendous success".

Asked by a reporter about his threats on imposing tariffs, Trump said, "We'll be talking about trade.

... It'll be very positive."

Asked whether Iran would be on the agenda Trump said: "We have a lot of things to talk about."

Abe said their three countries are the "foundation of peace and prosperity in the region" and thanked "Trump and Modi" for their roles.

When the three leaders were asked to shake hands for a photograph, Trump initiated a three-way fist bump.

Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, Commerce Secretary Wilbur Ross, US National Security Adviser John Bolton, Trump's son-in-law and adviser Jared Kushner were present at the start of the trilateral meeting.

The trilateral meeting began after Trump and Abe had a bilateral meeting.

The bilateral meeting between Modi and Trump was to follow.
