‘Victoria (and) Abdul’ loses Best Make-Up and Hair to ‘Darkest Hour’ at BAFTA

London, Feb 19 : "Victoria (and) Abdul" starring Indian actor Ali Mazak opposite veteran actress Judi Dench, lost its race for the Best Make-Up and Hair category to the film "Darkest Hour" at the 71st British Academy Film Awards organised by the British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA), here on Monday.

Helmed by Stephen Frears, "Victoria (and) Abdul" is based on a novel by Shrabani Basu.

It revolves around the relationship shared by Queen Victoria (Dench) and Abdul (Ali), who was a Munshi in her government.

It also shows his journey on how he became one of the most powerful figures in the court.

The film was up against "Blade Runner 2049", "I, Tonya", "Wonder" and "Darkest Hour".

"Victoria (and) Abdul" has also landed two Oscar nominations in the same categoriey split into two departments.

Consolata Boyle is nominated in the Best Costume Design category and Daniel Phillips and Lou Sheppard stand a chance to win Best Make-up and Hairstyling segment.

The Oscars are scheduled to take place on March 4.
