CBI arrests three postal officials in case relating to exchange of demonetised currency

Ahmedabad (Gujarat) [India], Mar. 20 : The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Monday arrested a Director of Postal Services and Senior Superintendent (Posts) in a case relating to exchange of demonetised currency.

CBI registered a case against three postal officials and unknown others on a complaint from postal department related to acts of omission or commission by postal staff during demonetisation period.

During investigation, police revealed that amount worth Rs.6, 59,800 was found exchanged on November 9, 2016.

It was further alleged that there was contradiction in reporting of exchange/ Withdrawn Old Series (WOS), in the records of entry made in the excel sheet of the actual forms available in the branch.

Searches were conducted at nine premises in and around the city which led to recovery of incriminating documents.

Further investigation revealed that, amount worth Rs. one lakh was recovered from the residence of Director of Postal Services and Rs.1.66 lakh was recovered from his office.
