ACB probing irregularity in irrigation project contracts: Maharashtra Irrigation Minister

Mumbai [India], Aug. 30 : After the Maharashtra government scrapped an Irrigation Project contracts, Irrigation Minister Girish Mahajan on Tuesday said the matter is being investigated.

"The matter is being investigated by the Anti Corruption Bureau (ACB) as the contractor has been charged with irregularity.

He has even been sent to jail and an FIR has been lodged against him," Mahajan told ANI. Mahajan said the work was halted since long, so the cabinet decided to scrap the project. The matter is being investigated and we will come up with its decision in next 2-3 days, he added. "We will give the project to a new contractor, and the new contractor will come on the basis on time bound.

Whoever is involved in this matter will not be spared," he added. The Maharashtra Government scrapped irrigation contracts worth Rs. 6,000 crore that were sanctioned by the Congress-NCP alliance when they were in power. These include as many as 300 projects, which are under probe. Former deputy chief minister Ajit Pawar has come under scrutiny. The Maharashtra government has decided to scrape 12 project of Konkan, 81 projects of Gosikhurd and 94 projects of Nasik.

The total amount allotted for this project was Rs. 3,995 crore..
