Arms haul in JNU campus: Pistol, cartridges found in abandoned bag

New Delhi [India], Nov. 7: Amid existing high tensions within the Jawaharlal Nehru University campus, an abandoned bag was found on the university grounds with two local pistols and seven cartridges in it.

The bag was discovered last night when security guards were patrolling the area near the north gate of JNU campus.

The police were informed immediately and a case was registered under the Arms Act. An investigation has been launched into the matter. Meanwhile, the Delhi Police has launched a manhunt to trace student Najeeb Ahmed, whose disappearance has become a major political issue.

Upon the intervention of Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, President Pranab Mukherjee has sought a report from the Delhi Police and the MHA over the missing student.

Najeeb went missing on the intervening night of October 14 and 15 after allegedly being beaten up by a mob of 20 students comprising ABVP members, who had gone campaigning to his room for hostel elections.
