Jorhat [Assam], Nov.11 : The craze for sports in India's North Eastern states is unprecedented, and one such instance of affection for games can be seen among the people of Assam, particularly Jorhat, who wholeheartedly supported the recently-concluded ATPA Shield Football Tournament 2016 through participation and financial support.
Assam never lack in talent. Given attention, guidance, facilities and modern infrastructures, talented sports persons can surely sparkle in national level as well as at international level.
Assam Tea Planters' Association (ATPA) Sheild is one such few major football tournament that is played in Assam.
Many reputed clubs from across the state competed for this coveted trophy. Clubs like OIL XI, BSC, ASEB, Assam Police, etc besides some other experienced local clubs participated in this prestigious tournament.
However, the participation of Lajong FC from Shillong in the tournament drew maximum attention from the fans.
The final match was played between Lajong FC and OIL XI last evening in Jorhat Stadium. The clash saw the OIL team trounce Lajong FC 3-1 to retain the prestigious ATPA Shield Tournament..
