DAC discusses strategic partnership issue

New Delhi [India], May 15 : The Defence Acquisition Council (DAC) on Monday discussed the strategic partnership issue.

Sources said, the substantial ground has been covered and things are moving forward. Defence Minister Arun Jaitley last month chaired the DAC meeting and took stock of the various proposals directed towards close monitoring and expeditious clearance of pending capital acquisitions cases, particularly those at the CFA and CNC stages.

The DAC approved Capital Acquisition Proposals totalling over Rs. 860 crore. The important proposals approved by the DAC included: -Procurement of Expendable Bathy Thermograph Systems for the Indian Navy with a categorisation of Buy Global under the FMS Route from USA -Procurement of equipment to counter mines in the sea.

The equipment is being procurred as a repeat order with Buy Global Categorisation at a cost of approximately Rs.

311 crore -Procurement of Barak Missiles for Naval Warships with a categorisation of Buy Global under the Option Clause from M/s Rafael Advance Defence Systems Limited In addition to the above grant of Acceptance of Necessity (AoNs), the DAC also reviewed several old proposals and gave instructions for the speedy processing of the proposals.

This was Jaitley's first DAC meeting as defence minister since he took over the additional charge of the ministry on March 13.
