Dance party sashays protest through Mike Pence’s neighbourhood

Washington D.C. [USA], Jan. 20 : Just few hours ahead of the presidential inauguration, about 200 protesters shimmied and sashayed their way towards the house temporarily rented by Vice President-elect Mike Pence.

With glow sticks, hula hoops and rainbow flags, the protesters took a dance party to the street to oppose Pence's positions on LGBT issues, the Washington Post reports.

The group blasted Beyonce and other up-tempo tunes, dancing its way to the house Pence has been renting until he moves into the Naval Observatory after the inauguration.

"We want to send a strong message to Pence that we're a united queer community," said 23-year-old Firas Nasr, a protest organizer who lives in Virginia.

"The idea is to leave a mark that Mike Pence will never forget," the protester added. As governor of Indiana, Pence had earlier signed a law allowing business owners to refuse service to lesbian, gay, bisexual or transgender customers.

The legislation sparked a national uproar and threats of boycotts until the legislature reversed course.
