Domingo to continue as Proteas coach till August 2017

Johannesburg [South Africa], Oct.26 : South African coach Russell Domingo has signed a new contract extension that will keep him at the post until the end of the country's tour to England in August next year.

Meanwhile, team manager Dr. Mohammed Moosajee has also had his contract extended. Confirming the news, Cricket South Africa (CSA) Chief Executive Haroon Lorgat said that they had decided to extend the tenure of Domingo until the end of the England tour in 2017 for the team's benefit.

"As part of the domestic cricket review, we are currently evaluating the entire coaching framework in South Africa and the Board believed the best approach at present was to extend the tenure of Domingo until the end of the England tour in 2017," he was quoted as saying by Sport24.

Lorgat insisted that the board had taken the decision unanimously, keeping in mind the recent 1-0 Sunfoil Test Series win against New Zealand and the impressive 5-0 win in the Momentum ODI Series against world champions Australia.

"In addition, the excellent Proteas discipline and the positive culture throughout the coaching team, the player leadership group and the rest of the players were viewed as exemplary," he added.

Domingo and Moosajee's contracts were due to expire at the end of April 2017, but the contract extension will see them remain with South Africa for the ICC Champions Trophy tournament in England in June 2017 as well as for the full bilateral tour to England which includes the four-match Test series, three ODI's and three T20 International matches.
