Girija Vaidyanathan appointed as new TN Chief Secretary

Chennai (Tamil Nadu) [India], Dec. 22 : Senior IAS Officer Girija Vaidyanathan was in Thursday appointed as the new Chief Secretary of Tamil Nadu.

She replaces P. Rama Mohana Rao, whose properties were raided by the Income Tax authorities yesterday. Vaidyanathan is a 1981 batch officer who is at present serving as the Additional Chief Secretary and Commissioner of Land Reforms.

An order issued from the state Public Department says she will also hold additional charge of Vigilance Commissioner and Commissioner for Administrative Reforms.

The ncome Tax officials yesterday conducted raids on the residence of Rama Mohana Rao and some of his close associates.

The IT sleuths began raids at 13 places. The raids continued at some locations for the second day today. However, it concluded at some locations. The IT Department also conducted searches at the residence of a relative of Tamil Nadu's Chief Secretary's in Chittoor in Andhra Pradesh.

The Income Tax authorities have seized bullion weighing over two kilogram and cash running to several lakhs in new currency, apart from some key documents so far.
