Heavy rains lash Delhi, NCR for second day; police issues advisory for commuters

New Delhi [India], Sept. 1 : Heavy rains continue to lash Delhi and the national capital region for the second consecutive day today causing water-logging and traffic jams in many areas.

Traffic moved at a slow pace on roads leading to Gurugram and the airport. The road from India Gate towards Ashoka Road (in front of bungalow no. 14, Windsor) has caved-in due to incessant rains disrupting traffic on that route. The area has now been cordoned off. As massive jams were reported on major roads in Delhi and Gurugram, the Delhi Traffic Police issued an advisory on Twitter.

"Traffic will remain heavy from Ring Road towards Bhairon Road (both carriageways) due to water logging.

Traffic is heavy in the carriageway from Mukarba Chowk towards Wazirabad due to an accident at Gopalpur Crossing," the tweet read.

"Water logging on Bhairon Road under Railway Bridge has receded. The Road is available for normal traffic. Traffic Alert-Traffic is heavy on Ring Road from Rajouri Garden towards Dhoula Kuan due to ongoing metro work at Mayapuri Flyover," the Traffic Police said in a series of tweets.

The morning rains also affected the flight operations. On Wednesday, Delhi and Gurugram witnessed massive traffic snarls due to water-logging caused by heavy rains with motorists stuck on roads for hours in some areas.
