Thiruvananthapuram, March 23 : HLL Lifecare, known as a condom manufacturer, is now entrusted with a more important job, as it has been made the nodal procurement agency for all COVID-19 medical supplies.
By now it has made more than a million Personal Protection kits (PPK) to be supplied across the country, said a HLL official.
A top HLL official on condition of anonymity said the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare has entrusted them to do all the procurement for things like PPK, N95 surgical masks with respiratory valve, personal protective garments, gloves, goggles, handheld infrared thermometers, and hand sanitizers on an emergency basis.
"Since we are already into drug procurement, we were made the nodal agency for Covid 19 supplies that has to be made to various agencies across the country," said the official.
"A million PPK are ready and there is a facility at Coimbatore which does the sample testing of PPKs and once they give the green signal, then the batch that has been produced is sent out."
HLL has with them a long list of suppliers which have been provided by the various department heads from Delhi.
"The tender forms is there in our site and we also have got in touch with these suppliers.
Everything is happening at breakneck speed and there is total harmony between the various agencies as all know the importance.
We are confident of meeting all eventualities and there is no question of any complaints of things not reaching the needy," said the official.
He said the only point of concern is with transportation on account of lockdowns, but they are confident of overcoming that also.
"There need be no worry on any count, as there will be no shortage at all," added the official who did not wish to be identified.
