Bijnor (Uttar Pradesh) [India], Oct. 13 : Forest officials rescued a leopard from a 20-feet deep well here on Wednesday. The captive feline was noticed by some locals who alerted the forest officials, after which the police force immediately rushed to the spot.
It took rescuers hours to take the leopard out of the well. "We received information around 11 o'clock that a leopard, which has fallen into a well, needs to be rescued.
After receiving the information our team started from Corbett (National Park) with full preparation to immobilize it.
And when forest team arrived, they restrained it physically. The leopard didn't need any chemical immobilization," said Dr. Dushyant, a member of an expert team from Corbett National Park. Increasing human population has depleted habitat of wild animals, forcing them to stray into human settlements - attacking people and cattle - and often getting killed in return.
Apart from leopards, elephants and panthers often stray into inhabited areas in India in search of food.
